McDonald's, known for its consistency and staple menu items, is rolling out new upgrades to its classic burger lineup in select cities. The upgrades, which include changes to the Big Mac, McDouble, Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger, and Hamburger, will feature softer buns that are freshly toasted, perfectly melted cheese, juicier and caramelized patties, and even more of the Big Mac sauce. These updates were first tested in international markets before being introduced in the US.

Small changes for big flavor

According to Chef Chad Schafer, Senior Director of Culinary Innovation at McDonald's USA, the upgrades are the result of small tweaks in the cooking process. For example, hotter, meltier cheese and adjusted grill settings for a better sear have made the burgers more flavorful than ever. These changes follow previous upgrades to McDonald's mainstays, such as using only fresh beef in its Quarter Pounder patties and cooking them to order.

Winning over diehard fans

Introducing major changes to a staple menu requires winning over diehard fans, and McDonald's has enlisted some help to prove the desirability of the new burgers. The Hamburglar has made a comeback to promote the refreshed Big Macs and other burgers.

Where to find the new burgers

The upgraded burgers are being served in select cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Boise, Tucson, and surrounding areas. They will be available nationwide as of 2024.
