While the occasional snowfall adds a charming touch to the winter season, let's be honest: the chilly weather, slushy conditions, brisk winds, and rare blizzards are not ideal. No matter how harsh the weather may be, your skin shouldn't be forced into an unpleasant state of dryness and tautness!

And with Christmas just around the corner, your skin is the first thing you start to notice changes. Skin that is dry, harsh, and irritating is a special guest this season. By drawing moisture from the surroundings, your skin maintains its level of hydration. Your skin becomes dehydrated and feels dry as the humidity levels drop.

Here are some suggestions for how to keep your skin nourished and smooth throughout winter.

Hydrate Hydrate

First thing first. Hydrating your body is so important. Drinking water is the solution to all problems. During the season of dry skin and cold nights. You may think your body doesn’t require much water but it does. Your body needs water in all seasons to work its magic. Hydrating helps remove toxins from the body and clear out the dryness on your skin. Make sure you’re drinking enough.

Don’t say Goodbye to Sunscreens

A lot of individuals make the error of only using sunscreen during the summer. Throughout the year, there are harmful UV rays that can hurt your skin when combined with the additional risk of snow glare. If anything, make sure to use sunscreen with SPF on your hands and face!

Pick Up a Humidifier

Increase moisture in enclosed places by using a humidifier. Your skin will benefit from natural moisture retention as a result. Set a humidifier to run in every room in your house or the areas where you spend the most time, and try to maintain a humidity level inside your home of between 30 and 50 percent. Leaving it on while you sleep at night is one option. You usually see them in celebrities' houses too. Koreans have perfect skin that is a few steps away.

Moisturize your skin

Since your skin has diverse needs depending on the season and its surroundings, we normally suggest having two separate skincare routines for spring/summer and fall/winter. Upgrade to a heavier, maybe oil-based daily moisturizer (depending on your skin type, of course!) to hydrate, nourish, and shield the skin from the elements. Spend money on richer body creams to keep your skin from cracking or becoming uncomfortably dry. Additionally, think about investing in a protective cream for additional defense and/or a night cream if you believe your skin needs more support than just facial moisturizers.

Avoid Hot Water

Long, steamy showers may sound like a great idea when it’s cold and blustery, but very hot water can dry out the skin. You should also avoid using excessively hot water when washing your hands. This is especially true if your hands tend to be red, scaly, and itchy. Dry skin from exposure to hot water or cool winter air can trigger an eczema flare-up.

Cooler water seems to be as effective as warm water at removing germs and is less irritating to the skin.

Go for a Simple Skin Care Routine

Your skin may become more sensitive and vulnerable to irritation and redness during the harsh, dry winter months. In this situation, it's essential to adapt your skincare routine for such winter. Use slightly elevated products with less irritating chemicals instead of rough and unpleasant products like ethanol and perfumes. Take care of those blackheads too.

You may gradually start incorporating some of your personal favorites into your routine if your skin feels nourished and smooth.
