136-Year-Old London Coffee Store Is A Gem Of London

London's Soho is the IT place always! Times have changed vintage shops crawled down and came back again as people wanted vintage yet! Some shops have just stood the test of time!

Algerian Coffee Stores is a 136-year-old coffee shop standing strong amongst the modern and bohemian stores and cafes of London. The best part is people still love it and go back for the real taste of coffee.

The shop was founded in 1887 and is managed as a family business today the store changed owners in the earlier period but since the 1940's the owner's family is the same.

“I’ve been working here probably my entire life since I could walk. Me and my sister (were) here on our Saturdays doing very important jobs – or so we were led to believe. We’ve been here full-time between us, probably about 30 years. This is like our home.” says Marisa Crocetta the current generation of the family heading the business. The family also sells over 80 kinds of coffee beans and over 100 kinds of tea. The family sources their coffee and tea from various shows, and pop-ups and arranges via a network of contacts in the business.

Although there is an older coffee store in the city but Algerian Coffee Stores are equally magical for the people when they discover the place for the first time. Amidst shiny coffee machines and chrome tops seeing a shop that is warm and homely the people utter "wow, this is magical" and the sisters know this person is a newcomer to the shop!

“We don’t necessarily see ourselves as an international institution or anything like that,” she says. “In all honesty, me and my sister and my dad, we just see ourselves as a shop,” said Crocetta the other sister who runs the place.

She said that reinventing the place is not what people want! They like the old-world charm. However, one modern thing the store has is an online store! They ship the coffee worldwide and they get multiple international orders from coffee connoisseurs that help them sustain well in such hard economic times!
