Fast food chain KFC is expanding its chicken sandwich lineup by testing two new sandwiches at its Tampa, Florida locations. The move is aimed at attracting younger consumers and building on the classic KFC ingredients. According to Nick Chavez, the chief marketing officer for KFC U.S., the chain's goal is to "give customers more of what they want." The two new sandwiches are the Ultimate BBQ KFC Chicken Sandwich and the Spicy Slaw Chicken Sandwich, both served on brioche buns and can be ordered on their own or as part of a combo.

New Flavors Tried AT Tampa

KFC's Ultimate BBQ sandwich comes with a Honey BBQ topped extra crispy filet, fried onions, hickory smoked bacon, melted cheese, and pickles. Meanwhile, the Spicy Slaw Chicken Sandwich features coleslaw, pickles, and spicy mayo. KFC is testing the new sandwiches in Tampa and if successful, they may be rolled out to additional locations.

Food Innovation Wars

KFC has been innovating and keeping up with the trend of chicken sandwiches since the so-called "Chicken Sandwich Wars" ignited by the launch of Popeyes' ultra-hyped, pickle-topped offering in 2019. Since then, KFC has released a "premium" sandwich to compete with Popeyes and is now testing two new sandwiches to keep up with the competition. KFC has also recently announced the release of two new wraps in restaurants nationwide after testing them out in the Atlanta market. The Classic Chicken Wrap and the Spicy Slaw Chicken Wrap are both available for $5 or as part of a combo that includes fries and a medium drink for $7.99.

KFC is committed to giving customers new and distinctive sandwich options, according to Chavez. The new sandwiches, he said, offer flavor variety that builds on classic KFC ingredients. Depending on how things go in Tampa, the new KFC sandwiches may soon be available in other locations as well.
